Intro to Citizen Science Professional Development Workshop

Registration is closed for this event
The first of our three-part virtual PD workshop series: Citizen Science & Pocket Labs. Workshops may be taken individually as stand-alone programs, or in succession for PD credit.

Join fellow educators for a "mini PD" exploring strategies for engaging students in meaningful learning through Citizen Science. Educators in this workshop will learn what Citizen Science is and how it can be used as a vehicle for Project-Based Learning (PBL) in the K-12 classroom. You will also learn about curriculum and resources for practicing Citizen Science with students, available for free through the NASA GLOBE program. All participants will receive a materials kit valued at approximately $50 to aid in the implementation of citizen science in the classroom.

The workshop will consist of (2) one-hour live sessions on Zoom, and an individual research and reflection assignment (approx. 3 hours) to be completed between the two meetings. Zoom sessions will be recorded; however live attendance at the Zoom meetings is required in order to receive a materials kit and to be eligible for PD credit (see below).

Workshop Meeting Dates:

Thursday, December 8 | 4:30-5:30PM PT

Thursday, December 15 | 4:30-5:30PM PT

This workshop is the first of a three-part professional development series - Citizen Science and Pocket Labs. These workshops are adaptively designed for K-12 educators of any subject who are looking to integrate student-centered, project-based STEM learning opportunities in their classroom. Educators who complete all three workshops in the series are eligible to register for a professional development credit through the University of Idaho. (Information about obtaining a credit will be provided during the workshop.) Workshops meet Thursday evenings from 4:30-5:30pm PT, on Zoom.
