Description: Curious about how digital design meets hands-on making? This 6-week introductory class will guide you through the fundamentals of CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machining using a CNC router in a woodworking environment. Perfect for beginners, this course walks you through the full process—from designing your project in CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software, to creating toolpaths with CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing), and finally operating a CNC router to bring your ideas to life in wood.
What you’ll learn:
- Basics of CAD software for design
- Introduction to CAM software for toolpath generation
- Safe setup and operation of a CNC router
- Material considerations and machine tooling for wood
- Project workflow from digital file to finished product
At the end of the course, you will go home with a personal project you've completed from start to finish: a flat pack plywood stool!
Requirements: Basic computer literacy is required. Participants should be comfortable using a mouse and keyboard, navigating the file system (opening, saving, and locating files), and using common keyboard shortcuts (e.g., copy, paste, undo). No prior experience with the class software or CAD is necessary.
