Description:
In this six-week class young makers will learn the timeless art of quilting! Students will learn how to sew by making a mini quilt from start to finish —a hands-on project that teaches the foundations of sewing in a fun, focused way and that they can proudly take home at the end of the session. Through this engaging project, they’ll discover that once you’ve made a mini quilt, you can make any size quilt!
But quilting is just the beginning.
Sewing is an essential life skill—versatile, empowering, and incredibly practical. Whether it’s making clothes, repairing gear, designing decor, or building creative projects from scratch, the ability to sew opens the door to self-sufficiency, creativity, and real-world problem-solving.
Students will walk away with:
-
A completed mini quilt to showcase their skills
-
Confidence in using sewing tools
-
Core techniques they can apply to any sewing project
-
An understanding of color, design, and fabric choices
-
The ability to turn raw materials into something useful and personal
This class is designed to equip youth with a skill they can use for life—one that fosters independence, attention to detail, and creative thinking. Sewing is both an art and a tool, and learning it gives students the ability to make, fix, and invent in ways that few other skills can.
Start with a quilt. Go anywhere from there.
