Session Dates (12): Sessions are one per week for 12 consecutive weeks, skipping the week of spring break for CDA schools, March 30-April 3rd. Course will run based upon enrollement minimum requrements of 6 students being met.
Time: Sessions are 1.5 hours long, 1:30-3:00 PM
Description:
In this exciting, lab-based and challenge-driven course, students will investigate the science of our regional watershed—partnering with experts from the University of Idaho Water Extension and 4-H to bring real-world learning to life.
At the heart of our journey is the amazing Rathdrum Prairie-Spokane Aquifer—one of our region’s most important natural resources. Where does our water come from? How does it move underground? Why does it matter? And how can we help protect it?
Over 12 weeks (meeting once a week for 1.5 hours), students will:
💧 Explore geology by building models of aquifers and underground water flow
🧪 Test water quality and chemistry in hands-on labs
🌱 Investigate ecology and biology to see how water supports plants, animals, and people
🌨️ Discover soil and snow science and how seasons affect our water supply
🛠️ Design and build creative solutions to real watershed challenges
This isn’t just learning about science—it’s doing science. Along the way, participants can earn Tool & Skill Badges in lab techniques, environmental investigation, engineering design, teamwork, and problem-solving. Aligned with Idaho science and technology standards for grades 3-5, this course also builds essential workforce and life skills—curiosity, collaboration, critical thinking, and confidence—through meaningful, real-world exploration.
By the end of this three-month adventure, students won’t just understand their watershed—they’ll see themselves as scientists, engineers, and stewards of the water that sustains us all.
